Translation posters

These posters consist of a series of badly translated words of wisdom. This “bad translation” was achieved by feeding famous Arabic sayings through various languages in google translate to get to the final phrase that no longer really makes sense. The series of posters are connected to a bigger overall project titled ‘Lost/Found in Translation‘  that sought to challenge preconceptions about modern day translation and technology, by subtly pointing out its flaws but also recognising possibility in the content of those flaws.

The posters pose many questions about modern day translation and technology and possibly answers them in a manner that neither celebrates nor defames our technologically advancing society. A curiosity is created in the viewer that keeps them both, eager to learn more and willing to understand that although the new form may be confusing, it may also be legible. This is further explained in the twitter account that links to the poster with the barcode at the bottom.
